Beginner’s Guide to Red Light Therapy

Red light therapy is a simple, science-backed way to support healing, energy, mood, and overall cellular health. Using gentle red and near-infrared (NIR) wavelengths, your Makiuri device helps power your mitochondria — the energy centers of your cells — to promote repair, balance, and daily vitality.

How It Works

Your device delivers specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light commonly used in photobiomodulation research and general wellness applications.

Red Light (630nm & 660nm)

Red light is commonly studied for its interaction with the skin and superficial tissues. Research suggests it may support skin appearance, collagen production, and overall skin wellness, as well as promote relaxation and a sense of well-being.

Near-Infrared Light (810nm, 830nm, 850nm)

Near-infrared light penetrates deeper into the body and has been studied for its potential role in supporting muscle recovery, joint comfort, circulation, and the body’s natural inflammatory response.

Together, these wavelengths have been shown in studies to interact with cellular processes involved in energy production (ATP), which may support overall cellular function.

How to Use Your Device

Distance: Approximately 6–12 inches for general use; 3–6 inches for targeted areas

Timing: Morning use can support circadian rhythm alignment; evening use may promote relaxation

Duration: Start with 2–5 minutes per area and gradually increase to 10–15 minutes as tolerated

Consistency: Regular use, up to 5–7 times per week, may support optimal results

Safety: Wear eye protection when eyes are open. If experimenting with brief closed-eye exposure, use red light only and discontinue use if discomfort occurs.

Create a Consistent Routine

Use your device in a calm, comfortable setting. Many users incorporate sessions into an existing wellness routine—such as hydration, breathwork, stretching, or quiet relaxation—to support consistency and long-term use.
